What is BBL /IPL/ Photofacial?
BBL (also known as intense pulsed light (IPL) or photofacial) is a skin rejuvenation treatment that improves a variety of skin conditions on the face and body. This includes various signs of aging, such as sun damage, freckles, brown spots, broken capillaries, and fine lines, as well as skin conditions such as hyperpigmentation, flushed appearance, and rosacea.
How does BBL work?
The laser produces light energy that heats up the skin. The heat is absorbed by the targeted areas and this stimulates the production of new collagen. The light energy also targets and eliminates fine blood vessels that cause redness and unwanted melanin responsible for pigmented lesions. The outcome is skin that appears smoother and more vibrant.
And BBL promotes youthful skin, too!
A recent study performed at Stanford University found evidence that the benefits of BBL go beyond a visual improvement. The study found that BBL promotes changes that functionally rejuvenate genes at the molecular level. The following video describes these exciting results.

BBL and Rosacea
Rosacea is a skin condition that leaves people red-faced from dilated blood vessels and chronic flushing. Rosacea can also cause pimples and or blisters on the nose and cheeks. For men and women, BBL/IPL can successfully treat dilated blood vessels and redness, while greatly reducing the episodes of flushing with long-term effectiveness.
BBL and Sun Exposure
Sun damage takes its toll on our skin in numerous ways. Long-term exposure to the sun can result in pigmentation changes in the skin. These are commonly referred to as brown spots, sunspots, or hyperpigmentation apparent on the face, neck, chest and hands. After a series of treatments, you will see a significant reduction of unwanted pigmentation and the appearance of smoother, revitalized skin.
What to expect?
Depending on the number of conditions you are treating, a series of 3–6 treatment sessions is recommended. After a treatment your face will be flushed, feel warm and the brown spots will appear darker. This darkness flakes off in 7-10 days. Microdermabrasion is a popular procedure 5-7 days after BBL.
